In this session presented by Education Service Center, Region 20's, Cheri Kahn, Instructional Assistants will learn the hard truth that 1 in 4 students attending school has been exposed to a traumatic event that can affect learning and/or behavior. (NCTSN). This trauma can impact school performance, impair learning, and cause physical and emotional distress on a daily basis. IAs will learn how they can prevent triggering reactions by traumatized children while at the same time setting clear and firm limits on inappropriate behavior by developing logical, rather than punitive, consequences. IAs in this session will learn strategies they can implement to support routines and practices that ensure our traumatized children are nurtured in a safe and supportive school environment.
